Core Platform Core Accounting

Core Platform module

Live

Close the month without reconciling two systems, with Core Accounting.

A real double-entry ledger for a South African business, with bank statement import, a trial balance and VAT201 preparation in the same place as the invoices that feed it. Start free and run a month in parallel before you commit.

What it does

What Core Accounting does

Read a trial balance instead of assembling one

Get the month closed without a rebuild. Every invoice, payment, credit note and stock movement posts itself to a double-entry ledger, so the trial balance reads the same data the sale wrote.

Match the bank without a spreadsheet

Find the difference in an afternoon rather than a week. Import an OFX, QFX or CSV statement from your bank and match it against what Core already has. Live bank feeds are on the roadmap and not in this release.

Prepare a VAT201 from the ledger

Be ready for SARS the day you register. Documents are VAT-aware from the moment you raise them, and VAT201 preparation lives in Core Accounting rather than in a separate spreadsheet.

Answer a question without exporting anything

Trust the number on screen. Reports read the same ledger every document posted to, so a report and a statement can’t disagree with each other.

One ledger

The books are already written by the time you open them.

In most setups the accounting is a second system that somebody re-types into once a month. In Core the ledger sits underneath everything, so accounting is where you read the result rather than where you capture it.

  • Core Invoice posts the sale, the VAT and the debtor as the invoice is raised.
  • Core WMS posts the stock movement at the moment the item leaves the shelf.
  • Core Payroll posts PAYE, UIF and SDL against the pay run as it’s finalised.
  • Core Expenses posts an approved staff claim without a second entry from anyone.

Straight answer

Who Core Accounting is for

Switch it on if

  • A business already invoicing in Core that wants the books in the same place.
  • An owner who would rather read a trial balance than assemble one out of exports.
  • A business not yet VAT-registered, or about to be, that wants the return engine ready when it registers.

Leave it alone if

  • You are VAT-registered and file every cycle today. Core’s VAT201 engine is built but still being proven with registered tenants during Early Access, so Sage is the safer bet, or run Core in parallel for a cycle first.
  • You bill in foreign currency. Core is rand only today.
  • You need live bank feeds. Core does statement import and matching, with feeds on the roadmap.

What it costs

Flat monthly pricing, in rand.

No per-seat charge and no invoice limit on any tier. A bundle always costs less than buying the same modules separately.

Core Accounting is included in the Starter, Operations and Full suite plans.

The current price of each is in the pricing section on the Core Platform page, along with what every plan carries. If you want a straight answer on which one fits, ask us and we’ll tell you.

Moving over

Moving over from Sage

Sage has the deepest South African compliance record of anyone in this market and it’s fair to say so. Core competes on being one connected system rather than on compliance depth. Export your Sage contacts, invoices, credits and payments as CSV, import them into Core with everything historical flagged, and run the two in parallel for a cycle. If you file a VAT201 every cycle, do the parallel run rather than a clean cut.

Questions

Common questions

Yes. Every document posts both sides to one ledger, and the trial balance and the reports come off that ledger rather than off a summary of it.

VAT201 preparation is built into Core Accounting and documents are VAT-aware today. It is still being proven with registered tenants during Early Access, so if you file every cycle, run it alongside what you have for a cycle first.

Not with a live feed in this release. You import an OFX, QFX or CSV statement and match it in Core. Live bank feeds are on the roadmap.

Yes. Users aren’t billed per seat, so adding your accountant or bookkeeper costs nothing extra on any plan.
