Core Platform vs Zoho Books
Zoho Books is a genuinely good product and at R 99 its Standard plan is full accounting, so this is not a walkover. Here is the honest comparison for a South African business, where Core wins and where Zoho still makes sense.

Who should switch to Core
- You invoice often and Zoho's per-user tiers or invoice caps are starting to bite.
- You want the books to keep themselves under one ledger, without a 45-app suite to wire together.
- You are on a South African footing: ZAR, SARS payroll, local couriers and pay rails in one place.
Who should stay on Zoho Books
You lean on the app ecosystem
Zoho One and the Zoho marketplace are enormous. If your workflow depends on a shelf of connected apps, that breadth is real and Core does not match it yet.
You bill in foreign currency
Core is ZAR only today. Zoho Books does multi-currency on its higher tiers. If you invoice offshore, stay put for now.
Zoho Books Standard already fits
At R 99, Standard is full accounting with three users. If three users and its yearly invoice cap are plenty, it is a strong plan and the honest answer may be to stay.
Core Platform is in Early Access and does not do everything the big incumbents do yet. The best way to decide is to run it in parallel for a cycle. Nothing forces a hard cutover.

- Is Core Platform cheaper than Zoho Books?
- At the entry point they are close. Core Invoice is R 99 a month with unlimited invoices and unlimited users. Zoho Books Standard is also R 99 but limits you to three users and a yearly invoice count. Core wins on no caps and one flat price; Zoho wins on app ecosystem breadth.
- Can I move my Zoho data into Core?
- Yes. Core has a one-click importer for Zoho Books CSV exports: contacts, invoices, credit notes and payments come across, flagged as historical so they do not double-count against your opening balances.
- Does Core do VAT returns like Zoho?
- Core produces VAT-aware documents today, and the VAT201 return engine is built into Core Accounting for when you register. During Early Access it is still being proven with registered tenants, so run it in parallel first if you already file every cycle.
